Portfolio
Below is a selection of some of my favourite pieces of work that I have completed, most of which is what I have found through my corporate identity. There are also some personal and commissioned pieces that I have included.
Valley Theatre

Website & logo design for a theatre based in Liverpool, they needed a redesign of their existing website as it was looking very dated. I decided to spruce it up in a way that would appeal more towards their target audience; younger people. Therefore I used a combination of bold text, vivid colours and a large emphasis on photography. I added a CMS using Perch so that the client can update the website with the latest events, content etc.
Bridie Nelson

Website & logo design for Bridie's coach mentoring services, the design needed to be targeted towards individuals facing a health or life crisis. Bridie wanted the look of the website to convey a sense of hope for her potential clients, hence the peaceful use of imagery.
Commission: Portugal Holiday Home

Commissioned through one of my clients. This is for a UK based company that hires out a holiday home in Portugal. I thought the use of a large background image would be a good way to show off the interesting sights in the area. Everything on the website is fully customisable, it also features image galleries that the client can update themselves.
Ista Health

Website & identity for a group of medical professionals specialising in evidence based prescribing advice for patients. I wanted the website to have quite a high-tech, scientific feel in order to match their chosen trade.
Acoletti

A website to promote Coletteās floral designs, which are tailored mainly towards weddings but with some emphasis on corporate also. Colette wished to have a dark background so I had to experiment with different photos and colour schemes to get everything to balance out.
Commision: Childrens Play Centre

Commissioned by another one of my clients. This time for a childrens play area in the northwest. I carried out some research beforehand as it was the first website I'd ever designed that was based around children. I wanted it to appear both professional so that adults would take it seriously, as well as exciting so that children would want to pay a visit to the venue. To get on the right wavelength I had a look at various childrens websites for inspiration, such as the Sesame Street and Play-Do websites to get an idea for colour and image use.
Duracrete

A company specialising in sprayed concrete, mainly geared towards building outdoor skateparks. Although they offer other services, they wanted their skatepark builds to be the focal point of the design. I stuck with a rather boxy layout for this one, I wanted to stay away from rounded corners and soft colours as they wouldn't have matched the client's industry at all.
Nothing Goes to Waste

A website & logo design for a recycling company based in North Wales. Due to the nature of the business, I had to make sure that the website had a very natural and environmentally friendly look to it. I am quite pleased with how it has turned out, however the company needs to remain dormant for the time being so there's no telling when the website will be going live.
Freshbeat

Here is the website I have found most of my work through so far. Freshbeat is my corporate identity aimed purely towards businesses in the UK, I wanted the site to have a really natural and organic look to it as I find nature itself gives me a great deal of inspiration. I made use of a lot of jQuery effects in order to get to grips with the library so that I could offer the same thing to future clients.
PenguinPages

Business directory for UK based companies, which was originally my dissertation in university. After hand-coding the entire system in PHP and sketching / Photoshopping the mascot, I decided to continue working on it in my spare time and upload a version with more features. I have since become less keen on the whole ultra-shiny Web 2.0 look, which is why I am in the process of redesigning it. So expect a sequel sometime in the near future!
Doggie Styles Dog Grooming: Logo

A logo / mascot for one of my clients who specialises in dog grooming. She was particularly keen on the idea of having a mascot rather than a logo as she wanted something unique, that couldn't be mistaken for anything else. After some in depth discussion about how the dog should look and behave, I sketched out some ideas and emailed them over. Once my client was pleased with the pose in the sketches, I recreated it in Illustrator. I then experimented with different fonts to see which one was the most suitable.
Bridie Nelson: Logo

For Bridie's logo, I played with the idea of development. I intended for the increase in size and movement of the circles to represent the development of her clients as she supported them in living with long term health issues.
Nothing Goes To Waste: Logo

I based the Nothing Goes To Waste logo on a house as it was part of the nature of my client's business. I also went for the colour green as it gives a good impression of a clean environment, which is the theme my client wanted. When I was designing this logo I played with the idea of negative space and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.
Valley Theatre: Logo

Valley Community Theatre wanted a more modern logo to match the new website I was making for them. Their previous logo was based on a circle and they wished to keep this in the new logo. That way they would maintain some of their previous, more familiar, identity despite having a new one designed.
Ista Health: Logo

I used the circular shapes in this logo to give a scientific feel to the website. I wanted it to look similar to the sort of shapes used in scientific diagrams.
Ista Health: Business Cards

My client also wished to have some business cards to promote their newly founded business. I stuck with the same theme as the website with regards to the use of colour and cloud photography.
Msoft Brochure

Part of a brochure I designed during my employment in 2008. It was to advertise my employer's blood tracking system and had to fit in with their existing identity.
PenguinPages: Joey B

The mascot I made for my business directory website. I decided to call him Joey B (for some reason!) and started off the way I always do by sketching out some different ideas before taking my final idea into Photoshop. I spent a lot of time giving him various shades and shining effects as I wanted him to really stand out in the website.
Freshbeat: Logo

The logo for my corporate website. I did have a logo prior to this version, however I had never really been fully happy with it. I eventually got around to redesigning it once my logo design skills had improved and this was the result. I feel this new logo had a massive impact on the overall appearance of the website, and I then knew that the identity for Freshbeat was finally complete.
Freshbeat: Business Cards

This is the second version of my Freshbeat business card. Seeing as I had redesigned the logo, I knew I would have to update my business card in order to maintain consistency. I altered some of the colours and added the white gradient towards the top of the card. I am now much happier with my new business cards due to the design changes and new logo.
Freshbeat: Postcard

Part of my postal marketing campaign for Freshbeat. I used similar elements to the rest of my Freshbeat marketing materials. In this case, I had to sacrifice the more subtle feel used in the rest of my Freshbeat identity by including lots of information about my services and offers in such a small place. I also decided to use Internet Explorer to contain the image of my client's website. Normally I wouldn't dream of using Internet Explorer for anything other than testing, but I thought it would appeal more to my target audience.
